Welcoming the Blessed Month!

A cordial invitation, once again, to the House of Allah (s.w.t.)! How blessed are we? It is with great joy that we have been given the opportunity to accept the grand invitation by Allah (s.w.t.) for the Holy Month of Ramadhan. A banquet has been prepared, one we have witnessed time and time again, yet each year brings forth new ambitions.

Before us is a feast of opportunities – the ‘ever-so-distracting’ Shaytan is locked up, the treasures of Tawbah and Forgiveness are ample, and the chances to earn Thawaab and tally up our deeds for the Hereafter are endless! But more importantly, what did we bring to the table this time?

Only you can answer that question…

Ramadhan 1433 is the 3rd Ramadhan I am doing in London, England after having moved back from Orlando. The atmosphere in Orlando will truly be missed during these special days, and so will the atmosphere of my parent’s house, as it is my first Ramadhan as a wife, and in a new home.

Mum’s a Miracle!

Marking 23 years of a wonderful life blessed by the Almighty, I decided to re-launch my blog in a new light; not only to write frequent blog entries but to also pursue learning about our wonderful religion through different channels.

I’d like to dedicate my first blog to a wonderful and important person in my life; my mother. Having recently gotten married, and moved into a new home, I now realise what a precious personality she is.

Mum, I have expressed my truest emotions to you; told you of my innermost worries and thoughts, and it has been the best feeling to have such an amazing relationship with you! Truly there is nobody like a mother in one’s life.

Ajeeb!

In retrospect; the Flag stood as a central pivot for the wave of black that circulated around it. My eyes closed, I could hear a unanimous beat, a sense that young and old in unison urged to revive their souls by beating their chests. Or did they?

Smiles formed on their lips, – gum-chewing, socially chatting, not a care in the world – girls jumped at the chance to be a part of that wave; but all for the wrong reasons. The flag, and the flag-bearer whose bravery we have constantly been reminded of was the central icon tonight – but I ask, was your pride to stand, to circle, to be a part of a ritual, such that you forgot why you were there? Whom were you mourning?

*Home is where the Heart is*

To my Floridian family and friends,

I’m really missing you all! (Especially during the month of Ramadhan)

The friendliness between young and old, even while fasting, greeting and meeting, asking after each other and each other’s families, sharing stories of the day, even when you don’t know someone that well, is something that is unique to Florida.

All those wonderful Iftaar get-togethers at friends’ houses. You know we’ve been out because we casually walk in at Dua time in large packs, holding Slurpies and a variety of chocolates after a short stop in 7-Eleven!

Those spur of the moment late night Daku’s when our parents keep reminding us as we are leaving mosque, to call them when we reach wherever the Daku is, when we are leaving the Daku, and to wake them up when we reach home!

Though undoubtedly fun, the endless stress of Youth Programs and trying to get young and old involved in Friday and Saturday night programs at the mosque! Memories in the youth group have been unique (because there’s no active girls youth group here!)

Who is Hussain?

You ask me about this personality, and I respond with nothing. Utter silence….an overwhelming wave of disbelief, quickly overcome with understanding and realisation. Slowly I speak “It isn’t that I don’t know, I just do not know what to say, where to begin, how to make you understand, the impact of this single soul on humanity at large.”

Again, realisation.

Thursday 15th of November, 2012: I have been hearing fireworks for the third night in a row. Yesterday was the beginning of a new year for the Hindu’s, and today, is ours. Side by side stands a Mandir and a Mosque. Entering one are people filled with life, happiness, and dressed in their best yet. Entering the other, are flocks of Muslims, dressed in their simplest, their darkest colours, and their hearts heavy with grief. For both, it is the new year, for both it is a new start, a night of resolutions.

Miracle Child

To my Dearest Mother…

I watch you from above, and wonder why you cry,
I try to reach your tears, and then I understand why.
I am elevated here, in the safety of His fold,
My fingers and my toes you can no longer hold.
My mother how can I speak of the times you held me near?
From the day I saw this world, you kept me safe from fear.
Every difficulty I faced, you promised company in those days,
You were my radiant sunshine, and my family were its rays.
Mother, I was your miracle child, the beat to your heart,
I sensed yours and Pappa’s love, right from the very start.
I may not be there now, but here I have the gift to see,
To watch over you as your angel, even Pappa and ‘little me’
I’ll stand by Heaven’s door and wait, till you are holding my hand,
the Creator knows of your perseverance, I pray your reward is grand.
Mother, know I love you, know I’ll always be your miracle boy,
Live, dream and persevere, I’ll be with you through your joy.
I love you Mum

Personally, having spent time with both mother and child, Muhammad was truly amazing and so was the perseverance of my wonderful friend, Parveen.
I sincerely pray to the Almighty to give Shaukat Bha and Parveen, and their families, a unique strength for the loss of their Miracle Child
