Oh Mahdi, I lie in wake, tears streaming
My eyes wide open, I know i’m not dreaming
The terror, the lives, the call to fight
The Iraqi civilians, what is their plight?
Oh Mahdi, I see it around me, everywhere I look
Faces of innocence, my heart they shook
Answering Labbayk, preparing their gear
They were born true believers, having no fear
And me, oh Mahdi, where do I stand?
Far far away, from this blessed land
Finding my strength, finding my soul
Finding it so hard to keep control!
The world all around me, moving so fast
Caught up in luxuries that won’t even last,
I want to be beside you, defending your cause
I want to be there with you, at Heaven’s doors!
You see, Oh Mahdi! I call and I plead
My voice is heard, and seen is my deed
If only my balance in life was steady
If only I could come running and ready
But world temptations, keep me falling behind
They snatch my emotions, my weakness they find
They take me and lure me, and surrender I do
Blindsided I am, not loyal to you
Oh Mahdi, please help me, to recognize your stand
To not get caught up despite being far from your land
To live and to serve, solely for His pleasure
So that I am seen worthy, of His endless Treasure
So that worthy I am of His Grace and Mercy
Of your intercession, and so that my soul is free
My soul clean and pure, ready to say “I am here!”
When you reappear and need those without fear.
I pray for guidance and light through perilous days,
Oh Mahdi, save me, bring me closer to your ways.
